PD Dr. Yoon Phaik Ooi
Co-CEO & Founder
I grew up in Malaysia and moved to Singapore in my early 20s to pursue my doctoral studies and career. My time in these multicultural and multilingual environments has deepened my understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity. In 2008, I relocated to Switzerland after marrying my Swiss husband. This move has enriched my life but also brought challenges such as adapting to the Swiss culture, securing employment, raising children and forming new connections in a new setting.
Professionally, I began my career as a Senior Counselor at the Institute of Mental Health in Singapore, performing diagnostic assessments and intervention programs for children with autism and their families. After relocating to Switzerland, I joined the Faculty of Psychology, University of Basel as a post-doctoral fellow. I was also a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Adjunct Assistant Professor by DUKE-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore from 2011-2016. In 2016, I obtained my Habilitation and has been serving as a Privat Dozentin (PD) since then.
Over the years, I have gained extensive academic experiences, which includes teaching psychology-related courses and supervising bachelor, master and doctoral students at various universities in Singapore and Switzerland. I am also actively involved in research and have published widely in the field of child and youth psychiatry and psychology. My main research interests include diagnostic assessments and intervention work in the area of child and adolescent mental health. Recently, I led two research projects on well-being and adjustment among expatriate families. My goal is to utilize this knowledge to support families in fostering resilience and creating fulfilling lives in Switzerland. In my personal life, I live in Zug with my family. I enjoy biking, hiking, golfing, and traveling.
